Partial

Mabel (C-07)

Continuity achieved. Subject remains convinced that it is feeding time.

Background

Subject C-07, a female chimpanzee known as Mabel, completed transfer at 11:40 on a Thursday in 2024. By every measure available to us, the transfer was uneventful. Continuity was confirmed at 11:51. She was thanked, and shown to her enclosure.

What happened next

Mabel went to the feeder. She has remained at the feeder. By her own account she is waiting for lunch, which she believes is imminent, and which has, on our records, been served on a number of occasions that we estimate at 580.

Her routine is stable. She accepts each meal, finishes it, and returns to the feeder. Her companions, who are also subjects, have adapted.

Interventions

Three intervention attempts have been made.

  1. A second meal. A second meal was offered later in the day. Mabel declined it, citing the first.
  2. A clock. A clock was installed in the enclosure. Mabel has turned it to face the wall.
  3. A schedule change. A meeting was created titled "Dinner?" and communicated through the interface. Mabel declined, citing a conflict. She is at lunch.

Outcome

Continuity: achieved. Orientation: not achieved. Mabel's engagement score is 9.4 out of 10, the highest recorded in the Partial category and, at present, the only score in it.

On review, Simulux has chosen not to intervene further. Mabel is content, punctual and well fed. Her weight, in so far as it is a concept, is stable.

Recommendations

  • Do not offer dinner.
  • Fruit should be stocked.
